I love the creative brilliance of cartoonists and greatly admire their gift to convey messages with only an image or two and just a few words. Throw some humor into the mix, and I'm smiling for hours.
Such was the impact of this Wumo strip by Mikael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler.
Within seconds, I found my teeth bared ear-to-ear and laughing out loud, yet beyond that I was touched by the power of the message.
We are in a society that constantly feeds us a stream (sometimes more like a flooded Amazon!) of messages telling us we don't have enough and that we are not enough. While the messages themselves can be subtle, the constant chatter is amazingly effective.
What remains is a feeling of lack, emptiness, anxiety and fear of missing out.
Yet by simply switching focus, from what we don't have, to what we do have - a practice of Gratitude - our whole perspective shifts. We feel more content, lighter and more whole, even if just for a moment or two. Those moments add up and can be a huge help to counteract the negative messages confronting us daily.
I practice a little "caveman" gratitude everyday - it's done wonders to bring my life into perspective, adding more moments of joy to each day.
As we enter this season of Thanks, I hope you find moments of gratitude throughout each day.
